Share the Gift of Comfort: Pathways Seeks Pet Therapy Volunteers

There are few things quite like the comfort of a friendly animal.

For hospice patients and families, time with a certified therapy animal can offer companionship, brighten a difficult day and create moments of connection and joy. That’s why Pathways is looking for Pet Therapy Volunteers to serve patients and families throughout Northern Colorado.

A Special Need in Loveland

Pathways has an especially strong need for Pet Therapy Volunteers who can visit assisted living and skilled nursing facilities in Loveland. Opportunities are also available throughout the Pathways service area.

Volunteers and their certified therapy animals may:
  • Make rounds at assisted living and skilled nursing facilities
  • Visit hospice patients in their homes
  • Spend time with patients at the Pathways Inpatient Care Center
Every visit looks a little different. Sometimes it may be a quiet visit at a patient’s bedside. Other times, a friendly dog or other certified therapy animal may bring smiles to an entire hallway.

Whatever the setting, these visits can help patients feel less isolated and provide families with a welcome moment of comfort and happiness.

The Impact of a Wagging Tail

Hospice care is about supporting the whole person and the people who love them. Pet therapy can be a meaningful part of that support.

For patients, spending time with a therapy animal can provide companionship and a welcome change of pace. For families, it can create a positive shared experience and a moment to simply enjoy being together.

And for the animals’ human companions, volunteering offers a meaningful opportunity to share their pet’s special ability to connect with people.

What You Need to Volunteer

Pet Therapy Volunteers must have:
  • A certified therapy animal
  • Current vaccination records
  • Completion of Pathways volunteer onboarding and compliance requirements
If you and your therapy animal are already certified and looking for a meaningful way to give back, we would love to hear from you.
