Pathways Hospice Community Care for Northern Colorado

Our medical directors

Our medical directors have direct patient contact in every one of our care settings. They serve as liaisons between Pathways Hospice and patients' primary care physicians to ensure the continuity and quality of care. In some cases they consult for patients, families and attending physicians; in others they serve as patients' primary physician.

Dr. David Allen, Medical Director Executive

A longtime resident of Fort Collins, Dr. Allen was a practicing physician and owner/partner of Internal Medicine Associates for 25 years before joining Pathways Hospice as our full-time medical director.

Board Certified in Hospice & Palliative Medicine, Dr. Allen oversees Pathways Hospice’s healthcare professionals and programs. He also provides educational programs on the subjects of hospice and palliative care, advanced directives, and pain and symptom management.

Dr. James Danforth, Medical Director

Dr. Danforth was involved with the founding of hospice care and Pathways Hospice, Community Care for Northern Colorado in 1978. He has been Board Certified in Family Medicine since 1974 and has more than 30 years of experience in private family practice in Loveland. One of two part-time medical directors for Pathways Hospice, Dr. Danforth is also Board Certified in Hospice & Palliative Medicine.

Dr. Danforth has served as chief of staff for the McKee Medical Center and as the president of the Larimer County Medical Society.

Dr. Joseph Lopez, Medical Director

Dr. Lopez has been Board Certified in Family Medicine since 1983 and has more than 25 years of experience in private family practice in Fort Collins. A medical director for Pathways Hospice since 1987, Dr. Lopez is also Board Certified in Hospice & Palliative Medicine.
