Pathways Hospice is pleased to announce our 2010 Featured
Artist, Barbara A. Seckinger.
Barbara is a client of Pathways Hospice Grief Support and
Art Therapy Program. She created a variety of images in session
with an Art therapist to explore issues related to loss, serious
illness, and the need for self care when dealing with the
stress associated with these issues.

She graciously provided us with the images she created to
display at events, at our facility, and on bookmarks and note
cards in hopes that others may become aware of the expressive
art therapies that Barbara has found to be so beneficial.
You may obtain a complimentary bookmark at Pathways Hospice,
305 Carpenter Road in Fort Collins.
Barbara describes her experiences and shares her thoughts
regarding art-making as a form of therapy:
“Pathways Hospice services have seen me through many transitions
in my life: most recently, the death of my mother, job loss,
and the on-going process of defining myself as more than my
health challenges. Expressing myself visually through art
at Pathways Hospice has been an extended and transforming
process. I now foresee myself continuing to use art on my
own throughout my life.
I have never considered myself an artist, though photography
has been a hobby for decades. What I create is spontaneous.
I may have a theme such as “visualizing a place of peaceful
retreat.” Largely, I experiment, letting myself play with
color, lines and shapes. It is a bit like a dance, through
the shape of the brush, and movement of my fingers and arm.
My finished pieces are always a surprise. They allow me to
integrate my life experiences, but also release me from my
everyday life of medical issues, emotional struggle or physical
pain.”
